Hand Washing App a finalist for Innovation Award; Now Available for Android
Last fall the LGMA launched what we believe is the first ever iPhone “app” for teaching farm workers how to properly wash their hands. We are happy to announce that we have just launched a version of the app for Android phones as well.
And we just received word that the Hand Washing Training App is a finalist for “Best New Food Safety Solution” in the United Fresh Produce Association’s Innovation Awards competition. The awards are presented during the United Fresh Produce Show in Chicago June 20th through 22nd. The awards are selected based on popular vote, so please check out the app and consider voting for it in its category.
The app is designed for use by farm supervisors to provide consistent hand washing training that can be delivered anywhere. If just one supervisor at each LGMA company used the app to train their workers, this would result in hundreds of workers properly trained in hand washing.
There is no charge for this training tool, and it is available in both English and Spanish. It takes about 5 minutes to complete and includes:
- Step-by-step directions
- Photo and video examples
- Exercises to reinforce concepts
The final step in the training is a quiz that users must complete (and pass). The app also teaches proper use of gloves and hand sanitizers that some farming companies use. It’s available in English and Spanish.
We hope that providing the Android option will further increase use of this interactive teaching tool among those on the front lines of harvesting leafy greens. You can read more about the app here. Better yet, go download it in your preferred version – Android or iPhone, we have both now!
